And actually, as a developer, I can tell you that the story, dialogue, and characterization have to also be in gameplay if its to be a good game. So, for instance, Samus not activating her lava armor until her boyfriend tells her too is directly tied to how the gameplay works out. And in both cases, it makes no sense.
So because they fleshed out her character to give her a personality made her a disgrace? Sure, the whole sexist thing about her only taking orders from a man I can comprehend, but at least I was able to see some depth in her. And Other M was not a bad game. I saw no bad storytelling, no bad graphics, no crap plot, no bad controllers or even gameplay, & no bad characters. If anything I can complain about, next to the sexism thing, it's the plothole they left in the game's story (where the hell did the assassin ever go?), MB's awful voice acting, & the fact that the game itself felt short.
"So because they fleshed out her character to give her a personality made her a disgrace?"
No, it's that they took a silent strong protagonist and demoted her to a sniveling daddy's girl.
"Sure, the whole sexist thing about her only taking orders from a man I can comprehend, but at least I was able to see some depth in her."
I love her getting some depth, but it was literally the exact opposite of everything she'd shown before this. imagine (if you're Halo player) Master Chief meeting up with an old military friend who was female and above him in rank, suddenly coming into the game and him doing everything she ordered him to do despite what common sense would tell him to.
"And Other M was not a bad game."
I didn't say it was a bad game, I said what they did to Samus was bad. and the gameplay is very different. Other M takes a third person view with the shooting (save for the missle bits). Most of the games leading up to it (save for the 8-bit and 16-bit ones) were all first person, only going to third person for the Morph ball mode.
"I saw no bad storytelling,"
Plotholes in the game. Samus' reaction to Ridley, The assassin, Why there was an assassin in the first place who wasn't a rival bounty hunter. Why Samus didn't just tell the commander to shove his high and mighty stick up his ass when he said for her not to use her weapons she's highly trained in. or just ignored him anyway.
"no bad graphics,"
No argument there.
"No crap plot,"
Samus, no using the heat shield mode in you suit because I didn't say so, even though I sent you into a very hot enviroment. No Samus, you can't use your awesome weapons because I didn't tell you you could. (The Megabomb is understandable, but only if there were other characters in the room) Samus, I refuse to let you use all your weapons because you left the space academy and my rule. There is an assassin, who I clearly can't ID despite the fact I have the ability to see what everyone is doing simultaneously.
"no bad controllers or even gameplay,"
"& no bad characters."
Except the new Samus and her new "daddy".
"If anything I can complain about, next to the sexism thing, it's the plothole they left in the game's story (where the hell did the assassin ever go?), MB's awful voice acting, & the fact that the game itself felt short."
Most of the things you complained about is explained in the game.
"No, it's that they took a silent strong protagonist and demoted her to a sniveling daddy's girl."
Samus talks too much because she is actually writing a story. She shows what she is actually feeling instead of being silent the whole time. You try writing a book without talking.
"Samus' reaction to Ridley"
So you won't be scared when your nemesis COMES BACK TO LIFE in a more powerful form and tries to kill you? Before you say she wasn't scared in the other games, you don't even know if she wasn't because it wasn't specified. Too much wasn'ts. XD
This was explained in the story. The Galactic Federation was trying to kill Adam's team to cover up their plans.
"No Varia Suit"
TBH, I agree.
Samus regretted the time when she didn't listen to Adam, so she tried her best to fix that.
Samus was the only one with a working talkie thing and probably a camera too. XD
